    Windows are always an issue when it comes to music presentation or recording. There is nothing worse than the harsh, brittle, glare that comes from sound energy reflecting off of glass.     Suspended ceiling tiles are typically compressed powders and fabrics. There thickness is at 1/2″ so between the tile composition and the small thickness, absorbent coefficients below 500 Hz. are hard to come by.

We center a 18″ x 2″ x 18″ piece of our 2″ thick foam on the 24″ x 1/2″ x 24″ Armstrong white ceiling tile. Foam is grey and Armstrong tile provides the white 3″ recessed border.     Finish is a three coat process of clear coat to protect the commercial grade exterior material. Carbon technology inside the unit and our 2″ foam technology featured upon the face of each unit.

    The ACDA-12 STUDIO is a frequency specific absorber that starts at 30 Hz. and goes through 50 Hz. It does this journey with 35 % absorption at 30 Hz., 63% at 40 Hz. and 100% at 50 Hz.     Speaker cabinets are really miniature rooms. As your diaphragm (speaker) moves inside the cabinet, reflections and unwanted low frequency pressure issues inside the cabinet color the sonic energy that is then released through your speaker drivers and into your listening room. These sonic coloration’s take many forms.

    First, there comes the vibration or structural issues of the cabinet’s themselves. Everything that moves makes noise, Your drivers move back and forth and are attached to the cabinet. The cabinet takes this energy and then transfers it to the floor, so the floor can start moving. You now understand vibration (noise) transmission pathways.

    Low frequency, unwanted, room modal issues are presented within our speaker cabinet are in direct proportion to the speaker cabinet size and volume. Reflections from the speaker cabinet (room) are bouncing around inside the cabinet cavity. Where does all this over pressurized and time delayed reflected energy go?     Sub woofers generate a lot of low frequency energy that fills our rooms. Most of that energy will simply not fit into our small rooms. A 12″ driver produces 2 dB more energy than a 10″.     Pianos radiate energy in many directions. They radiate from the piano bed to the floor, from the bed to the ceiling and out the wood sides of the piano. If the lid is left on, then you have another series of reflections from the lid to the bed and then out towards the front. How do you manage all of those radiating sources of energy. It is difficult. That is why you do not hear many quality piano recordings.

    Low frequency absorption is achieved through the use of our carbon technology. All energy below 100 Hz. is treated with absorption through our carbon diaphragmatic process. Since the piano bed (speaker) is placed close to a boundary(floor), low frequency energy is magnified and proper rates and levels of absorption must be applied just as with placing a hi-fi speaker close to a wall.

    Middle and high frequency unwanted reflections from the floor to the piano bed are also reduced to minimize comb filtering. Comb filtering occurs because of the back and forth travels of sound energy from the bed to the floor and then back from floor to the piano bed producing a series of unwanted reflections. Our 2″ foam technology is installed on the top of the unit facing the piano bed to minimize the strength of this unwanted energy.

    To deal with two main issues comb filter and SBIE, we have created our Piano Carbon Platform. It is a smaller version of our ACDA-10 unit with a higher resonant frequency and unit height of only 6″. Two units fit most pianos and are rolled under the piano bed.

  • Many times in our studios we have a need for both diffusion and absorption. Bringing in separate units is not easy and definitely not cost effective. With our diffuser absorber studio (DAS) units you have both diffusion and absorption both in one unit. The unit is on casters so mobility and positioning is much easier than with free standing units.

    Diffusion can add air and separation to your instruments and vocals. A properly diffused sound field is a necessity in today’s recordings where absorption is used improperly.     Units are clear coated commercial grade MDF. This simple finishing technique is cost effective and seals the unit from moisture.   • The CSS is designed to accommodate rooms of different heights, widths, and lengths. The height can be adjusted from 8′ to 10′. The width can go up to 18″ and the length is achieved by “stacking” individual units together. It is truly a room within a room that you can assemble without any construction materials or crew. Two people can assemble within the existing room.

    To determine what size you will require in your room, take the measurements of your room and reduce the width and length by 12″. This will be your width and height measurement for your CSS. The height of the CSS is determined by reducing the existing height dimension of the room by just 3″. We want to maximize height as much as possible. Reducing the height dimension by 3″ from your existing room height is a good start.

    Each CSS module is 2 units wide and measures 54″ in width. The first units installed will be the ACDA-12 modules. They will go around the edge of your room where pressure areas are the highest. After the border is achieved with the ACDA-12 units, there is a combination of the ACDA-10 and diffusion units. Actual layout will be determined by room usage and room distances.
