He grew up with little money, and he started long ago, so he has acquired some of his equipment for as little as ten dollars. He believes a record can be made in a week. Steve prefers his role to be purely technical, helping bands to execute their own ideas. Steve achieves sonic quality with room mics on the floor and a delay line mixing room sounds with ambient sounds and prefers natural sound to through compressors, except for lead vocals and bass drum.
