Some electric bass enthusiasts subscribe to the theory that four strings are the maximum number that anyone needs to play electric bass well. This view is short cited. The electric bass is a relatively young instrument, and players should play with however many strings they find appropriate. While many famous bass players successfully and beautifully play with just four strings, many others play with five, six, and even nine-stringed electric bass guitars. Hard and fast rules like the “four string maximum” should not stifle creativity.
