In the early 1980s, Stevie Ray Vaughan became a sensation as a blues guitarist, appearing on rock and pop radio stations, playing with his band Double Trouble and with stars such as David Bowie. Despite initial rejection of his style at a Jazz festival in Switzerland, and a gutsy refusal to go on tour with Bowie and perform rock-star moves, his first record was a success, and his true-blues style was recognized for its excellence.
