Donald Fagen and Walter Beckett used a lot of studio musicians, especially bass players. Check these out.

The music of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen whether collaborating as Steely Dan or releasing solo CDs earns well deserved recognition with Fagen’s latest release, Sunken Condos. Less well known are the musicians who provide their base tracks. This close knit group includes Michael Leonhart, a 15 year veteran, Freddie Washington, Joe Martin, Lincoln Schleifer, and Jay Leonhart. In a recent interview with Chris Jisi these talented musicians shared their experiences creating bass sounds for this dynamic duo.
