single tones amplifying other frequencies

Just wondering why when i’m recording a 1kHz sine wave other frequencies are boosted also? in my experiment I played a single 1kHz tone over a song and noticed that not only was the 1kHz amplified but so was 3kHz, 5kHz, 7kHz and 9kHz?
