3D printing promises complete the loop and bring digital interface from the R&D department right to the manufacturing floor. Lockheed Martin has embraced the 3D printing process and has begun integrate it into aeronautics manufacturing. While the technology is still in its infant stages, Lockheed Martin hopes to greatly reduce time and manufacturing costs and is hopeful they will one day use 3D printing to manufacture whole satellites.
