Two Acoustic Foam Types
Acoustic foam is available in two general types. There are open celled foams and closed cell foams. Open celled foams are more suited to middle and higher frequency absorption where closed cell foam is more suited as a cushion for your couch. Although some closed celled foams do have low frequency absorption possibilities.
Three Thicknesses
The three thicknesses of open celled foams 1/2″, 1″, and 2″, designed and created by Acoustic Fields, took eight years to develop with a design requirement of a smooth absorption response and a focus on the human vocal range. No peaks or valleys allowed in the absorption curves. You must have smooth performance for both voice and music to really shine through without being smothered by over absorption.

Reflection Management
Absorbing reflections from your walls using foam is a popular method of controlling them, so you do not get confusion and distortion at our listening or monitoring positions. You can not just use any type of absorption. Absorption must be smooth and not over or under absorb any part of the sound spectrum. Foam works well in this situation because it is lightweight and durable, must one must look at the foam’s performance.
Need Smooth Rates Of Absorption
The issue with foams currently in the marketplace is that they absorb at uneven rates and levels. If you look at their absorption curves, the first thing you notice is numerous peaks and valleys. Some frequencies are absorbed 100%, some frequencies are not absorbed at all. It is crucial to have performance that is consistent and predictable when it comes to treating your hi-fi, home theater or professional recording room. It is also critical to absorb all frequencies at a rate and level that does not smother them completely, but only takes just enough energy away to tame the reflection at your listening or monitoring position.
Three Thicknesses To Choose From
Acoustic Fields acoustic foams come in three thicknesses, which enable you to choose the appropriate rate and level of absorption to fit your acoustical need. You can match the foam thickness with the sound pressure level played in your room and achieve a balanced rate and level of absorption that will allow for all vocals and instruments to be heard. With our foam you will enjoy a distinct and clear separation between vocals and instruments. Vocals come more forward.
Acoustic Fields’ Mission
The mission statement at Acoustic fields is to raise the room acoustic product up to the component level equal in performance and appearance to the amplifier and speaker. Both goals have been achieved with our PFP series.
